Dear Chris Brown

Ummmmm... Chris, you've truly lost it with this one. You are not Trey Songz or R. Kelly, in that you can't make the transition from singing to rapping and back; nor will you ever be. You haven't even mastered the art of singing enough to say 'Okay, let me try my hand at this.' No offense, but that sounded like the most generic of generic verses I've ever heard. Are you sure that Diddy didn't buy this verse for you? In fact, Tyga killed your verse and didn't even say anything worthwhile. Now, I'm not hating on your grind, because lord knows you have to bank on something these days. Your last album was a snorefest, even with all the features, and your credibility is at a low point. At the same time, though, shouldn't you be in the studio working on YOUR craft, not trying to come back out with a gimmick and a wack sidekick?? (Tyga can rap, but he's not a good rapper) I mean, for God's sake, you and Tyga looked (and sounded) like Kriss Kross in this video. And with a gimmick this lame, you guys might have just as short a run as Kriss Kross (even Jermaine Dupri can cosign that). Let's just hope your next move isn't wearing backwards clothes, because I will quit listening to hip-hop at that moment...

Fabolous – There Is No Competition (The Funeral Service)

Yeah, I'm late; sue me... Took a while for me to get through this one, but not for lack of quality. I just got an untagged version and had to figure out which track was which. Regardless, Fab had the blogosphere on its toes for about two months after we heard that 'There is No Competition 2: The Funeral Service' was being pushed back around Christmas. Then there were a bunch of supposed 'leaks' and a lot of industry BS, coming from DJ Drama's end. When it comes to any Fabolous mixtape, you have to be ready for punchlines, and this mixtape was no different. Fab went harder than I can honestly ever remember. Every song was like a flurry of lyrical jabs, hooks and uppercuts that combined to form a knockout punch. I'm not going to say it was the best tape I've ever heard, considering a lot of the content was repeated. Other than that, though, the tape was clean (minimal interference from the DJ is always a plus). Fab made his case for being one of the best out, even with the title being somewhat of a lie. Freestyle Friday (1/15)

What's up people?? Haven't done a Freestyle Friday post in a while, so here y'all go. The first one is from Nipsey Hussle. He does a verse over Nas' 'One Love' then gives a visual of him recording a track called 'Chillin on the Scene'. Props to AKZionz for putting me on to the track. The second one is by Trey Songz over Rihanna's 'Hard'. Trey honestly has a knack for doing a number over other people's beats. If he was a rapper, I really think he'd be better than a lot of heads out here. Check both videos and keep it locked to Dear Whoever...

Drake & Trey Songz - Successful

So umm, yeah... Another hit from Drake, another lackluster music video arriving months late. No I don't not like the song anymore. It's just that Drizzy's timing with everything seems a bit off since the summer's started. I feel like this video should have been out in July. Regardless of the time, the video is shot well. It matches the dark tone and the message of the song, although it did seem a bit simple. The Barack Obama quote at the end seems wrong considering the song, but I suppose everyone gets a free pass on Obama allusions this year. Check the video for Successful and try your best to be successful this coming school year (that goes out to all of my college people)...
