Illecism - Disregard All Turbulence (ft. Yae)

This time of year is especially rough. As a student, the impending weight of final exams, papers and other buffoonery is turning you into a hunchback, while the winter weather is enough to turn a sunny day into a disaster. That said, music is always a cure. This new Illecism track landed in my inbox and not only woke me up from a day-long funk, but is serving as a great vibed-out study song from henceforth. I suppose blogging and schoolwork should never cross paths, but at some points they're destined to collide. When they do, find yourself some tunes to ease the tension. This track did the trick for me, and hopefully can be of some use to you as well. Check out this cut from Illy's 'Molotov' mixtape...

Illecism - A Love > All The Trees (prod. Nicatyne)
Queen, as exhausted as I seem, I could stay up all night just to hear you talk about your dreams...
Yeah, summer is almost over... School bells are getting warmed up (I've been in school mode all summer), Staples is running more ads than BP, and everyone is looking forward to some good old-fashioned tax-free shopping. That doesn't mean heads can't enjoy the last few weeks of summer sun and a special someone to go along with them. That's why this track from Illecism is so raw. The beat is breezy, light and melodic, with Illecism going off about summer love in all its glory. Illy recently dropped this track on his new EP 'The Sun Don't Chill', which can be bought here for a contribution of $5. Honestly, if you just want something to ride to or relax to, look no further. And with more music on the horizon, I honestly don't know why Illecism wouldn't be on your radars, people. Enjoy the track...

Illecism - Tenga Un Refresco: Vol. 2

Illecism kind of took a step back with his last offering 'Forhdaboy'. Along with having a weird name, the beat selection was iffy. That was in January. Now that it's February, you'd think Illy would be taking a bit of a break to charge his batteries. Clearly that's not the case. Illecism dropped 'Tenga Un Refresco: Vol. 2' today, the sequel to his mixtape from last year, 'Have a Refreshment: Vol. 1'. This time around, Illy didn't skip a beat. His lyrics and punchlines are consistent and hard-hitting. You can hear the charisma in every track. He switches up flows on every song, so it really doesn't even feel like 24 tracks. Illecism makes light of his life as a 20-year-old struggling rapper, painting his pictures perfectly with stories, bars, interviews and skits imploring the rap game to 'have a refreshment'. The man is correct and is just the drink rap needs. Check out the link, back cover and tracklist, #dopetracks, loosies and videos...

Illecism – 4DB (FORDAHBOY!)

If you don't know who Illecism is, then you'd seriously better pay attention NOW. The Natomas, California native has been flying relatively low on the radar in terms of blog and overall hype, but has more bars than 95% of hip-hop. His first offering, 'Have a Refreshment: Volume 1', was an introduction to a talented young lyricist, and this second work, '4DB' shows incredible growth. Instead of cursing, there is crazy wordplay. Instead of sneaker raps and talk of mindless sex, there's flow diversity. Illy doesn't ever sound like he's struggling to find his sound or like he's trying too hard to drop lines. His craft is so effortless that you can't help but be drawn into his rhymes. What makes the mixtape even better is the fact that he talks about his struggles as an MC and other topics that a 20 year old black male would encounter. Me writing about the tape doesn't even do the man justice. You have to listen for yourself. Check the download, the tracklist, #dopetracks, loosies and a random freestyle I just found. Illecism is another one to watch out for in 2010. Make sure you're not the last one...

Illecism - Tenga Un Refresco: Vol. Dos

There's no reason for Illecism to not be signed yet. If Soulja Boy and Gucci Mane have any place on record labels, then Illecism should be getting Grammy's and ASCAP's. No, seriously. Whatever the state of the music industry, Illecism is working on his second solo mixtape, the sequel to Have a Refreshment: Vol. 1, 'Tenga Un Refresco: Vol. Dos' (somebody check the Espanol on that for me). I'm excited for what's coming for this man. Check the first trailer for Illecism's new mixtape...

Freestyle Friday (8/28)

J. Cole - Back To The Topic Freestyle

Freestyle Friday. You know what it is people. This week we got J. Cole doing a verse on the beat from some random Cassie song. He has bars for days, and isn't afraid to use them. He needs a little work on switching up his flow at times, but you can tell the lyricism is top notch. The second one I've posted before, but I still can't get over how dope it is. It's from Illecism, the Sacramento native. Listen to this man. I'm not kidding. He's unbelievable.
