The Kid Daytona - On the Hill (Music Video)

As much as people like to complain about rap videos, they're just a way to visually perform the song and convey the song's meaning. All that really changes in videos nowadays is the locations. So I guess it's no surprise that the Kid Daytona switched his locale up in his video for 'On the Hill'. Set in majestic wooded area of Friday Harbor, the scenery shows Daytona literally on a hill looking down with binoculars. I guess that's to say that he's head and shoulders above the competition in hip-hop. Not the most valid claim, but the visual does match the idea of the song. Glad to see this thing getting rotation on MTV2, too. Check out the video...

The Kid Daytona - Fly Lullaby (prod. by 9th Wonder)

If you wanted to get on the Kid Daytona's bandwagon, now would probably be the best time to step on. Daytona's been chopping it up with underground legend 9th Wonder for a while now, and it's only right that 9th would bless the Bronx MC with some of his always classic production. 'Fly Lullaby' features a very minimal, but intricate beat, with chimes sounding over a slow bass tempo, and a nice synthetic effect over it all. 9th certainly had me nodding my head for the whole track. Daytona doesn't disappoint either, switching up his flows over braggadocios rhymes, claiming his adversaries to be declining and waxing prophetic about Clarks Wallabees and fly sh*t that only the Kid Daytona can remark on. The Interlude LP (finally) has a release date of November 2nd. Don't sleep on Daytona, people...

The Kid Daytona - The Champ (Remix) (ft. N.O.R.E.)

While I've been high on The Kid Daytona's work over the past year, he's always been one of the slower ones in terms of releasing his work to the public. I suppose with collabs like this the wait is well worth it. Daytona's 'The Interlude LP' is still slated to drop during the Fall, so I'm at a fever pitch when it comes to waiting for more leaks. This particular one brings the Goya monster N.O.R.E. along for the remix to a track I threw up a few weeks back. He's got an old-school beat (10 e-points to anyone who can name the two beats interpolated in the track) and some slick and quick lyrics that go perfectly with it. Daytona might not be on your list right now, but he deserves to be considered next up. Check the track out...

Freestyle Friday (8/3)

Hey people. Friday equals freestyles and these two are at two different ends of the spectrum in terms of the rap radar. The first one is by the homie The Kid Daytona over at Tony Toca's radio show. I've been trying to put heads on to Daytona since I've started this blog, but I think they're finally starting to take notice. He drops off a nice (written) verse about his struggles in the industry, and glow-wise I don't think too many up-and-comers are messing with him. Daytona can do the swaggerific raps, but he definitely excels at the introspective. The second one is from Mac Miller, as he stops at YRB radio and drops a freestyle about his lifestyle as of late, complete with swag raps, fast women, and tons of mind-altering substances. I'm not going to knock the young man though, because he can actually spit, and keeps impressing me with his freestyles. Now if only his mixtape was up to snuff. Whatever the case, check out both freestyles

The Kid Daytona - The Champ (Produced by Ted Smooth)

The Kid Daytona is one of the few artists out there who takes time to develop his craft before he lets the world see what he's cooking up. That explains the dire drought between new offerings from the Bronx (*shots lick off*) representer. His flow and delivery don't sound like everyone else out there. He doesn't drop one word punchlines or use silly wordplay, but still manages to be palatable to the ears. Add to that an ear for great beats, and you've got yourself a hell of an MC. His new project 'The Interlude LP,' in collaboration with LRG drops this month, and the 2nd leak is an ode to better days in hip-hop, with an early hip-hop sample to boot (if anyone can name it, that's 100 e-points; I'm too young to remember). Lyrically, he spits venom and I dare anyone to contest that. Daytona's definitely got something going here that will get you NYC hip-hop fans excited again. Check out the new leak and get hyped for 'The Interlude LP'...

The Kid Daytona - Over the Hill (Prod. by 6th Sense)

I've been telling heads about the Kid Daytona since... actually since I started this blog. There's no reason to lie. I'm pretty excited about where Daytona's been and where he's going in the future. That future includes a new mixtape in collaboration with LRG, entitled The Interlude LP., slated to drop later this summer. For now, I guess we're stuck with the first leak from the new LP, 'Over the Hill'. It's produced by 6th Sense, so you know there are going to be a lot of acoustics and a vintage sound to it. The snare drum does soooo much for the beat. As for the lyrics, to say that Daytona ripped the track would be an understatement:
My ego could, fill the hole at Ground Zero
Roll around, windows down, 10-20 deelow
Psshhh!! They still sweatin' me though
These niggas whole style resemble the fro on Tito... SQUARES
And I'm the heir to the chair that's golden
Velvet rope on, softer than Greg Oden
It's just punchline city on this track. Daytona hasn't released any new music in a while, so I'd suppose this is verbal backup coming from the Bronx MC. I'm interested to see what other producers and features this LP is going to have on board. Regardless, the Kid Daytona is making moves, and good ones. Check out the first leak from The Interlude LP...

The Kid Daytona - Contemplation (ft. Tiara Wiles)

It's a great feeling when you see new music from artists that you actually bang with. The Kid Daytona has been missing on the blogosphere (and on this blog) for a few months now. Daytona's been touring around Boston and doing shows in New York a lot. This track is a 6th-Sense produced ode to random thoughts and ideas. Don't get it twisted though, because it's not a simply introspective track. Daytona flexes his lyrical muscle and drops punchline after punchline after punchline in the first verse. I had to rewind at least 4 times. Hopefully he does more of the same when the mixtape with LRG drops (what's the release date on that anyway???). Check out Daytona & his Notherground homie Tiara Wiles rip a 6th Sense beat...

Kidz in the Hall - Out to Lunch (ft. The Kid Daytona)

I looked over this one at first, simply because I haven't been feeling KITH as of late. If it wasn't for Double-O's beats, I might not even be half of a fan. Sometimes Naledge gets dry on his songs. Regardless, the Kid Daytona being on it made me give the track a try. Naledge finally displays a bit of prowess on wax, while Daytona introduces us to a much faster flow and hits the track with line after line. 'Out to Lunch' is going to be featured on the Kidz new album 'Land of Make Believe' (title is a little mehhhhhh), coming out next Tuesday, the 9th...

The Kid Daytona - The Minimum (ft. Tiara Wiles)

The Kid Daytona's been pretty quiet as of late, but I trust he's been in the stu doing what he does best: rapping. Regardless, he dropped a video for his song from 'Come Fly With Me', 'The Minimum' with Tiara Wiles. The video oozes influence from A Tribe Called Quest and does the song a hell of a lot of justice with the visuals. Check out the video and the BTS footage below...

The Kid Daytona & Bun B - Air Born

From his debut album 'Come Fly With Me' (see it here), The Kid Daytona finally dropped the video for his track with Bun B, Air Born. If you can't a fan of Daytona, then I don't know why you consider yourself a hip-hop fan. The man is simply a lyrical wizard. His flow works over so many different beats and his wordplay is smooth and quick-witted. Of course Bun, the Underground King, had to lace the track with some vintage flows. I can't say enough about the Notherground camp and the direction they're going, especially with 6th Sense producing tracks like this. Check the video for Air Born, and keep it posted for more drops people. AYYYYEEEEEEEE!!!!
