Dear Kevin Kolb

A picture is worth a thousand words...

There's nothing like getting the rug pulled out from under you, only to have it stuffed under you again as you're trying to get up. In fact, no one should know that more than you Kevin. Despite having a solid, but average 2009 campaign, 'winning' the Philadelphia Eagles starting QB position in training camp, and then losing it to injury, Kevin, you're going to have another chance behind center, and that is sad. I never thought I'd be so quick to place a team on the downs as I am now, but your Eagles are looking pretty bleak.

Kevin this, sadly, is not your team. Michael Vick was destined to be the starter from the minute last season ended. That Andy Reid awarded it to you from the beginning of training camp was a questionable move, considering how unimpressive you looked last year. Now that Vick is injured for the foreseeable future, Consider this, Kevin and I will try to put this nicely: You've played in 2 games this season, and in both, your presence as the QB was shaky at best. Maybe you know the plays. Maybe you're friends with the O-Linemen or play jokes on LeSean from time to time. On the field, that doesn't matter.

When Vick was in the game, there was still and unpredictable nature to the way the offense ran, but it all seemed to mesh together and the Eagles were cruising. When you took the field, there was little if any rhythm or jump to the offense. For God's sake, you completed only 4 passes to DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, while dropping the ball off to the running backs the whole game. It was as if you didn't want to make a play and were trying not to score. To be honest, the Redskins did not have that game definitely won until late in the 4th quarter. You being in the game didn't elevate the team like Michael Vick's a real quarterback would. Kevin, it's not that you're a bad quarterback either. It's that Michael Vick is a really, really good one now. That is also not to say that the Eagles would have go undefeated the rest of the season with Vick at the helm. It simply shows that it's not that hard to come by a second chance. Just ask Michael Vick...

Man vs. Machine in a Field Goal Contest

Man vs. machine is one of the ideas that has always been in society's mind's eye since the Industrial Revolution. Whether the plight of John Henry vs. the steam engine, the rise of computers in the latter half of the century, or the advent of true artificial intelligence, we've always been curious as to how we stacked up against the machines of our own creation. Such is the case here, where Joe Nedney, the kicker for the San Francisco 49ers engages in the battle of his lifetime against machine. Some engineers participating in the annual Robogames, crafted a 360-pound robot capable of kicking field goals with the best of them. And that machine almost took Nedney to the wire, until Nedney his a 45-yard shot against the wind. Ziggy (aka the robot) was nowhere close. I suppose in most feats of physical prowess, humans will prevail; that is, until modern science perfects physiological function. When it's 'the Future' (with a capital F), we'll see...

Dear Tim and Sam

Watching my usual insane amount of ESPN, it was funny that I missed this coincidence (coinky-dink). I don't know either of you guys personally, so I'm just guessing that maybe either one of you guys is wishing you were in New York City on April 26th this year. Not that I find the decision to stay at college weird, but what did you guys really hope to gain from staying an extra year? Tebow, your passing skills weren't as good as they could have been, but the NFL would fix that ASAP. You've won two national championships, both with you going in. And Sam, you were in one of them too. You might have lost the game, but what more did you really have to gain from staying at school another year? Three years as starting QB and a Heisman trophy seem like the perfect resume for an NFL quarterback. Both of you are GOOD. And both of you would have been top picks in last year's draft. I guess staying one more year would have made you more attractive picks for next year's draft, but you know you would both beast in the NFL.

What's messed up is that both of you are injured now. Sam, you ended the 1st game with a sling and a cast. And I don't even want to relive that hit that had you leaving the stadium in an ambulance. Both of you know what it is though. Tebow, you're a senior, so we won't be seeing you in Gator blue anymore. But Sam, you might be better off entering that draft, because if you get another injury, ESPN is gonna start hyping you as 'injury-prone' in their draft analysis...

If that's not a lesson learned, then I'll be damned...
