LRG Spring 2011 Collection

It's been a minute since I've posted any clothing, sneakers or apparel in general. I think I came to a realization about fashion, or clothing brands more specifically: If a clothing brand doesn't have a motif, a theme or a general feel to its apparel, then it's less likely to catch on. The most successful brands that my generation is drawn to like SUPREME (not my favorite, but influential nonetheless), Polo, Orisue, Levis among others, all have branched out into becoming 'lifestyle' brands that encompass a way of living or thinking. LRG, in their Spring collection does just that, exemplifying an earthy approach to fashion and life. Set in the woods, shores and skies of Washington and San Juan, and featuring a buttery-smooth song in backdrop, this preview from the good folks at LRG is a testament to their brand: simple, refined and one with its surroundings, no matter if it's the forest or the concrete jungle. WEWOOD Timepieces

Photobucket

With the recent trend of rocking wooden chains and jewelry, why not just add watches to the equation and send us right back to the tribal days. That's the idea environmentalists at Italian brand WEWOOD have come up with to extend the trend, using different kinds of timber to craft timepieces. The result is a completely sustainable watch, made with scrap wood and only needing a watch battery to operate. The kicker for WEWOOD, though, is that for every watch sold, they'll plant a tree. Not that I'm a tree-hugger, but the prospect makes the product's purchase that much better. WEWOOD has a lot more colorways for their CRONO and DATE. Check their website or hit the jump to see them...

ALIFE Fall/Winter 2010 Collection

Those of you who've been following Dear Whoever for a while now might notice that I've all but curbed most fashion and sneaker posts, save a few exceptional ones. That's not because I've given up on it. It's just that most brands are melding into the same category, and, as I find myself getting a bit older, hanging on to traditional streetwear brands is a bit lame. Some however continue to surprise me, if not by the designs themselves then by the way they're presented. ALIFE is always going to be on the scene. They've got way too much pull and a lot of creative minds rocking with them at this point. I guess it's no surprise that the lookbook for this year's fall/winter collection is so dope. A series of stop-motion photography with a white backdrop is all the NYC brand needed to show off their new collection of traditional graphic tees, flannel button downs, sweaters, hoodies and of course, their sneakers. The music does the video justice too. Check the lookbook out in slower motion here...

Peanuts x Lacoste - Peanuts 60th Anniversary Polos

Photobucket

Everyone loves the Peanuts. If you don't, then I'm not sure what planet you're from, or if you have a heart. 60 years ago, Charles Schultz started penning what would become the most popular comic strip in the world (sorry Boondocks), running from October 2, 1950 to February 13, 2000, now in syndication. From Lucy's constant bullying of Charlie Brown, to Linus' love affair with his blanket, to Marcy and Peppermint Patty's questionable relationship, the strip could captivate even the surliest of readers. To commemorate the anniversary, the good folk at Lacoste decided to team their iconic crocodile (not alligator) with Schultz' rag-tag bunch of baseball-playing suburban kids on their classic white polo shirt. The result is a nice set of shirts that have charming written all over them. The only thing is, they're available exclusively at Dover Street Market in London. That means you'll have to get your overseas connects up to get your hands on one of them... Either that or eBay. Whatever the case, the concept is dope. Check out the Peanuts x Lacoste 60th Anniversary Collection...

Consider it copped... maybe.

Band of Outsiders x Sperry 2010 Fall/Winter Collection

Photobucket
Not sure if I would rock these, but they're definitely an eye-catcher...

Recently, I've grown an infatuation with Sperry's. My father, unbeknownst to me until about a year ago, is the freshest man on the planet, starting with his shoes. His favorites, which are ironically (ironic, because I thought I'd be wearing sneakers for the rest of my life) mine now are Sperry Topsider Authentic Originals, which are essentially classics in the boat shoe industry. California brand Band of Outsiders has been collaborating with Sperry for the past few seasons, adding new materials and colorways to an austere silhouette. The collab continues this fall with more funky designs from Band of Outsiders. This season we look forward to a furry Original Authentic, a black leather high-top chukka, brown corduroy on some penny loafers and Original Authentics, and a grey canvas design as well (must-cop). These new takes on a classic brand are conservative enough for my father, but fresh enough of a concept for me. Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Check out some flicks of the collab between Band of Outsiders and Sperry...

Consider these next two copped...

The Madbury Club!

This is viral marketing at its best. Phillip Annand of The AwardTour has been tweeting on and off about an initiative called the Madbury Club lately, much to my confusion. Here's the first piece of media actually associated with it. Looking at the video, it's pretty much a who's who of really fresh NYC fashion personalities. Joe La Puma, Marcus Troy et. al. show their faces getting special invites for whatever the Madbury Club is offering. We'll probably get more word as to what the madness behind the Madbury Club is in the coming weeks. Maybe by then I'll have come up with enough explanations for what exactly it is. Check the video out...

UNDFTD Strikes World Cup Flag T-Shirts

Photobucket

I haven't posted anything on the 2010 World Cup yet, because I wanted to wait until it got closer... But I seriously couldn't resist putting this up. The folks over at Undefeated clearly are just as excited about the most popular sporting event in the world as I am. They took their signature 3 strike logo, and added a splash of some of the flags of key countries involved this time around. Honestly, it's a simple premise, but for an event that comes around once every four years, I can stand for a bit of vanity. Check out the rest of the t-shirts, and look out for them on sale May 22nd at Undefeated...

Orisue Summer 2010 Collection

There are few things more summer-y than a nice afternoon out on the water with friends. I suppose that's the look that streetwear brand Orisue was going for in the lookbook for their Summer 2010 collection. They brought out the yacht, some libations, some females and had a grand-old time dressed in the freshest of attire. The collection draws from both preppy and streetwear styles, with a few striped t-shirts, short sleeve oxfords and other pieces that seem to just meld for a good look. Not even going to lie. The party on the boat looks pretty fun. Whatever the case, check out the rest of the collection at Orisue and some choice flicktures...

'The Mixtape Was Better' T-Shirt

Photobucket

Sometimes, I wish these new 'blog' rappers wouldn't even put out albums. The title of 'album', to them, is indicative of a work that has to be mixed and mashed and cut into perfect squares and packaged for God knows what reason. It's as if once an artist says they're putting out an album, they become unnatural in their process. The music isn't as raw, soulful, insightful or.. good. That's right, I'm saying it. These days, artists in hip-hop and R&B put out better mixtapes than albums. Trey Songz, Wale, KiD CuDi, Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y.. the list goes on forever! If Drake and J. Cole flop (Drake's album is looking extra regular from the leaks), then I might just give up hope for hip-hop (hyperbole). But I suppose it's good that such a vibe is rearing its head. More people bump with mixtapes than albums these days anyway. It's just the record labels and radio stations still on the other side. I guess this was much more of a rant than a post about a t-shirt. Even so, the t-shirt brings up something we've all thought about music today. Props to the fellows at Academy Printwear for getting the word out in wearable form...

At $14 a pop, this might be a better buy than a lot of albums...

ONLY NY Spring 2010 Collection

Photobucket

Haven't posted any clothes in a minute, since nothing's really caught my eye as of late. As a matter of fact, I'd say that most of the brands I used to bang with have put out sub-par Spring collections. Maybe it's a shift in their M.O.'s or maybe it's me getting older and less cool with over-the-top designs. I suppose that's why I dig ONLY NY's Spring 2010 Collection. It's very simplistic in their t-shirts, hoodies and caps. The collection rocks with quality vintage cotton with simple logos. In fact, ONLY has extremely good branding. You never find yourself wondering 'Why'd they put that out?' or 'That doesn't fit with the rest.' It's just apparel. Well made and well designed in the mold of NYC street culture. Check out some more choice flicktures and the rest of the collection at ONLY NY...

If you don't know what that is behind the dude, I revoke your hood pass...

LRG Summer 2010 Collection

The good folks at LRG blessed us with a video and a lookbook of their Summer 2010 collection. This year, LRG is going for a more casual look. They went to some exotic location for the shoot, and did a lot of frolicking on the beach, a yacht and in what seems to be the jungle. The Spring collection looks like it's drawing from vintage 90's Ralph Lauren with some of the tops and looks very Miami Vice-esque with some of the others. All in all its really colorful, and another step up from LRG after having lost some of its clout over the past few years. Check out Big Sean, Cory Gunz and some of the LRG Skate Team in the video and the flicktures...

Rocksmith Spring 2010 Lookbook - Above & Beyond

Photobucket

The good people over at Rocksmith Tokyo have been building a solid following over the past few years with quality streetwear. This spring, the Japanese brand is calling their collection the most refined to date. Also, in true streetwear fashion, they've brought together a menagerie of up-and-coming hip-hop artists and radio hosts to add a little UMPH to the visuals for the collection. Check out some of my favorite pieces and check the rest of the collection at Rocksmith...
